It is part of the human experience to sometimes say, do or think things we shouldn’t. We can inflict pain on others, we can do things that are immoral or illegal. Sometimes we can do them with intention, sometimes we can do them without intention. Whether we do, think or say these things intentionally or not, we can feel guilty about our thoughts and our actions. Owning our mistakes, understanding ourselves and accepting our behaviours is the start of forgiving ourselves and becoming more mentally free. We have all done things we wish we hadn’t. Regret is a great life teacher. Accepting and forgiving yourself is a practice that is required to heal. Guilt doesn’t serve us, it depletes us.
